Marine Management Area (MMA) and Habitat Monitoring Officer, Dept. Marine Resources

Biography

Tricia Greaux serves as the Marine Management Area (MMA) and Habitat Monitoring Officer when St. Kitts and Nevis declared the first MMA, the SKN MMA, in August 2016. She is employed at the Department of Marine Resources (DMR) with a vision “To promote the sustainable use of all living marine resources in all waters of national jurisdiction and areas beyond national jurisdiction of St. Kitts and Nevis.” Using the ecosystem based approach to fisheries management find out more on www.dmrskn.com .

Just like the ocean with its unpredictability, Tricia’s day is often the same. One day she will be in a high school classroom in St Kitts implementing the SEE LIFE SEA SKN project, the next in Korea being trained as a Sustainable Ocean Initiatives Trainer, or in Grenada becoming a certified Marine Protected Areas Manager.

Tricia is the Creative Director of the Anjolique Dance Company whose dance pieces create awareness of social and environmental issues. The environment inspires the earrings and hair jewelry she also creates through her line Creative Cultured Creations.  She also serves at the Antioch Baptist Church and within her community through the Reach for Recovery SKB Breast Cancer Support Group.

Tricia believes this Forum is significant because “Everyone should treasure the ocean and marine habitat we have been gifted with and do what you can to protect it and keep it clean. Enjoy the ocean by marrying conservation with sustainable use.”
