Biography

Aria is currently a Technical Officer with CANARI based in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). In her current role, she is part of a team responsible for implementation of the Caribbean Component of the Blue Tourism Initiative (BTI) project,  for which CANARI is the regional implementing partner. In addition, Aria is currently supporting the implementation of all components of the “Pioneering a blue-green economic development model for coastal adaptation, livelihoods and sustainability in St. Vincent”, financed by the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF).

She is a former lecturer in Green Engineering and has worked as a consultant for international development organisations, regional and local NGOs and state-owned agencies in the fields of climate and disaster risk financing, disaster preparedness and response and environmental management for over seven (7) years.

With an MSc in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford and a BSc with Majors in Environmental Natural Resource Management and Geography from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Aria has contributed to research in the fields which she has engaged with, most recent being the co-author of Chapter A post-eruption analysis of the significance and challenges of community-based disaster risk management in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the  Handbook of Civil Society and Social Movements in Small States, published by Routledge.

Mrs. Laidlow-Ferdinand is also very passionate about issues surrounding women, youth and community development and has also been involved in various local and regional initiatives and organisations. She currently sits on the Caribbean Movement Led Approach Advisory Committee for feminist activism and climate justice, a member of the GEF SGP UNDP National Steering Committee for St Vincent and the Grenadines and a Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWIL) SVG chapter member.
