Biography

Dr. Thérèse Yarde, a native of Barbados, is Caribbean Fellow and Senior Director of Caribbean SIDS Programming with Conservation International (CI), where she leads the development of a strategic framework for CI’s ongoing engagement in the Caribbean, establishing the organization as a partner of choice for governments and civil society in the climate, biodiversity and sustainable development arenas.

A native of Barbados, Dr. Yarde possesses more than 20 years of experience in strategic planning, stakeholder outreach, capacity building and programme implementation for environmental and ecosystems management in the Caribbean. She led preparation of the inaugural report on the state of biodiversity in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and initiated development of the CARICOM’s first regional biodiversity strategy.

Thérèse holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph, a Master of Science in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London and a PhD in Geography from the University of Edinburgh. Her doctoral research examined perceptions of nature, including touristic nature, in the island of Dominica.
