Biography

Maria Fowell is tourism management professional with twenty-six years experience in the tourism industry in Saint Lucia and the region, including five years of policy formulation and implementation at a national level and six years at a regional level. Maria also has ten years experience leading corporate marketing and internal communications in the financial services sector within the Eastern Caribbean, supporting cross-functional teams in the implementation of strategic plans.

Maria has a BSc in Tourism Management from the University of the West Indies, an MSc in Marketing from the University of Leicester in the UK and holds a Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism Destination Management from the George Washington University. Her skills include tourism policy, planning & administration, community tourism initiatives, and event management.

Maria, a Saint Lucian national, currently holds the position of Senior Technical Specialist Tourism at the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission. In that role Maria leads on implementing regional tourism development in support of OECS Member States. In pursuit of the organization’s vision of a better quality of life for the people of the OECS, Maria is committed to sustainable tourism development and achieving balanced growth of tourism.
